Understanding This Calculator
What this calculator does
This calculator helps you build a zero-based monthly budget — assigning every dollar of income to a category so income minus expenses equals zero and nothing is untracked.
How to use the results
- 1.Enter your total monthly net income.
- 2.Allocate amounts to each category (housing, food, transport, savings, debt, etc.).
- 3.The summary shows whether you're balanced, overspending, or have unallocated money.
Worked example
$4,500 net income: $1,600 housing, $600 food, $500 transport, $400 savings, $400 debt, $400 utilities, $600 other = $4,500. Every dollar has a job.
Important assumptions & limitations
- •Uses net (after-tax) income; taxes are already removed.
- •Assumes monthly figures; convert biweekly pay by multiplying by 26 and dividing by 12.
- •Irregular income should be budgeted on your monthly minimum, with windfalls assigned separately.
